The project Data Zoom Amazônia was developed by the Department of Economics at PUC-Rio with the goal of providing free access to databases concerning the Legal Amazon. Data Zoom Amazônia aims to facilitate and streamline academic research about this region through the creation of the package  datazoom.amazonia in the statistical program R. With an approach focused on simplicity and organization, users will not need to dedicate their time preparing databases. The package provides all databases clean and intuitive, saving researchers manual work.

Frequent Questions

How to develop the Amazon, using natural resources in a sustainable way?

To answer this question, four renowned Brazilian research organizations have come together to create the most complete action plan for the Amazon to take a leap in human and economic development while preserving its natural resources by 2030. This is the Amazônia 2030 project.

The project is a joint initiative of the Institute of Man and of Environment of the Amazon(Imazon) and the Center for Entrepreneurship of the Amazon, both located in Belém, with the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) and the Department of Economics at PUC-Rio, located in Rio de Janeiro.

Researchers have generated knowledge from empirical studies, analyzes of the academic literature and documentary consultations, as well as from the experiences of forest peoples, businessmen, entrepreneurs and public agents, among other sources. These documents will gather practical recommendations, which may be used by private and public agents.
