Which are the municipalities with the highest mortality rates in the Legal Amazon?

The gross mortality rate has been increasing in Amazon’s municipalities.

The gross mortality rate in Amazon’s municipalities has increased over the years. These increases in the mortality rate can be explained by several factors, including population aging, the worsening of unhealthy conditions, in addition to reflecting changes in the epidemiological profile of the region. When pressing play, the map shows the temporal evolution of the mortality rate by municipality, where a gradual increase in the last decade is noticeable. The worst indicators regarding the number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in 2019 are from the municipalities of Augustinópolis-TO (1,721 deaths), Presidente Dutra-MA (1,619 deaths), Cacoal-RO (1,324 deaths), Imperatriz-MA (1,181 deaths ) and Cáceres-MT (1,091 deaths). The map also allows the user to filter the mortality rate by various causes. To learn more about the evolution and challenges of health in the Legal Amazon, click here.
